Accidentally transferred a call to... me

On the inbound line at 8:12 a.m., with 31 in queue, I tried to warm-transfer a billing issue and somehow routed it right back, so I answered ‘Victoria speaking’ and the caller sighed ‘Finally, someone new!’ Do you confess and laugh with them, or just keep supporting and roll with it?

I’d own it with a smile: “Tiny boomerang call — still me, but I’ve got billing up now and we’ll get this sorted,” then keep working; note it as a self-transfer in the ticket so QA doesn’t wonder. If they’re clearly over it, offer a quick supervisor warm transfer as a reset — want a one-liner script for that?

I’d say, “Looks like the call did a U‑turn — still me, but I’m owning this,” then keep supporting and conference billing so they don’t have to retell anything. If they sound fried, skip the joke and go straight to, “I’ve already got billing up and started the adjustment.” +1 to @wilson4: I note it as a self-transfer and add the queue length so QA understands why I didn’t requeue.

Happened to me last week: I opened with ‘You looped back to me — silver lining is you don’t have to repeat anything; I’ve got your details and I’m moving it forward,’ then did a 10‑second recap and kept going. If they really want a new voice, I warm-bridge and intro them in one sentence so they never re-explain — do you have a quick handoff blurb set up?

With 31 in queue, I’d say “same agent, faster fix” and own it; callback?
